Meet the founder
Tony started studying technical analysis more than 20 years ago while working for Macquarie Bank on the floor of the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE). It was here Tony’s passion for the markets was fuelled.
In 2003, his ongoing study of markets and technical analysis enabled him to become part of the Proprietary Trading Group at Goldman Sachs. Tony was fortunate enough to learn from working with and watching some of the best financial minds in the business. Trading mainly foreign exchange (FX), he posted strong returns on capital, in particular in 2007 and 2008, before leaving the firm in 2009 to transition into FX sales with BNP Paribas (BNPP). He has spent the last five years at Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).
While at CBA and BNPP, Tony wrote and published the Weekly FX Technical Report containing technical analysis, trade ideas and opinions. The report earned a strong following from a variety of clients, including fund managers, hedge funds, balance sheets, central banks and large corporates all over the world.
In 2016, the report was shortlisted for the 2016 Technical Analyst Awards in London. Tony’s was the only Australian nomination, up against some of the biggest banks in the world.
It was also voted the No. 1 FX Technical Research Report from a domestic bank in consecutive Peter Lee surveys (2014 and 2015).
Tony has also made regular appearances on a Sky Business Foreign Exchange program, highlighting key FX technical points of interest. He is a member of the Australian Technical Analysts Association.
The Australian Technical Analysts Association (ATAA) is a not-for-profit association that has the primary aim of promoting the correct use of technical analysis. Membership consists of both professional technical analysts and private individuals who use technical analysis to assist with decisions related to trading and investing in the financial markets. The focus of the Association is the provision of education to enable members to be more effective traders and investors. In addition to this, the ATAA also has the following aims:
- To establish personal contacts between analysts both inside and outside Australia with a view to promoting the theory and practice of technical analysis.
- To help raise the level of community awareness and respect for technical analysis.
- To provide meetings and encourage the interchange of materials, ideas and information in order to add to the knowledge of members.
- To encourage the highest professional ethics and competence among technical analysts.
